Background

Laxogenin is a chemical found in plants. It stimulates plant growth. Laxogenin and a similar chemical, called 5-alpha-hydroxy laxogenin, are sold as medicine. However, there is no evidence to support their use.

Laxogenin and 5-alpha-hydroxy laxogenin are taken by mouth to build muscle and increase strength.
When taken by mouth: Laxogenin is POSSIBLY UNSAFE when taken by mouth as a supplement. Products claiming to contain laxogenin, or a related compound called 5-alpha-hydroxy laxogenin, usually contain other ingredients that might be unsafe. Some of these other ingredients are banned from use during sports competitions.
