More about this report

The 2021 vital.ly digital health report examines the way Australians are engaging with their health during the times of COVID-19.

Through an independent survey conducted with a representative section of the Australian population, we discovered that Australians are making fewer in-person visits to healthcare practitioners and pharmacies, while accelerating their take-up oftelehealth services, health and wellness apps, and online medicine deliveries. Our report also shows that Australians place an overwhelming trust and value in personalised practitioner advice and will continue to engage directly with medical and health professionals to suit their needs.

56% of those we surveyed plan to use digital tools in the future to manage their health. Diet and exercise trackers continue to be popular, but perhaps not surprisingly, the use of apps to manage anxiety, stress, and insomnia is expected to skyrocket, with two in five planning to use apps to help them manage their sleep and mental health in the next 12 months.

In terms of trust - doctors, government health websites and healthcare professionals such as naturopaths and nutritionists as the top three trusted sources for health advice.

99% of respondents in our survey said they used vitamins (62.4%), sports supplements (25.8%) or herbal medicines (10.9%) in the past 12-months. Two in three people plan to buy their medication and supplements online – up from just one in seven today.
