Position: Database assistant

Location: vital.ly HQ, Mascot, Sydney

Reports to: Database manager

Employment status: 3 month contract to begin, with a view to extending. 32 hours a week or full time

Salary: Dependent on experience

Your responsibilities:

To be clear, this position requires in large part data entry, a strong technical understanding of herbs and nutrients, the ability to stay focused for extended periods of time whilst working on your own.

  • Adding ingredients & products to the database
  • Double checking ingredients and products already added
  • Writing product copy where required
  • Help build out the database in various ways – ie. optimising our search engine by pre-empting spelling mistakes, adding ingredient synonyms, etc

 

Also the job will involve

  • Checking product data with technical support from various practitioner brands
  • Work with the team at vital.ly to test the database front end, and help us develop additional functionality
  • Work with office and warehouse staff to determine priorities in terms of when products should be listed, when products should be in stock (if access to a physical label is important in finalising a product entry, etc)
  • Potentially talking with stakeholders outside the business to explain how we approach database management & development
  • Checking TGA / third party websites. Some relatively basic online research, etc
  • Assist with other tasks as required. We are a small business and these can be varied. You will be challenged whilst working here. It is a relatively fast paced environment, but we would not compromise the quality of work to hit deadlines, etc

 

Qualifications, Experience & Technical Skills

  • Graduate or very close to graduating in Naturopathy or Herbal Medicine
  • Experience working with data
  • Excellent written English and a demonstrated ability to communicate effectively
  • A demonstrated ability to work independently and with initiative

 

Personal Attributes

If you enjoyed the technical side of your studies, specifically ingredient analysis and related information, this could be a role that fits. We're looking for a technically minded practitioner or student. In particular, we are looking for people with the following skills / characteristics:

  • The ability to work with uncertainty and a willingness to make mistakes, accept responsibility for mistakes and learn from them. A healthy positive attitude is essential and highly valued
  • Attention to detail
  • MS Excel skills (need at least a basic working knowledge of Excel)
  • Familiarity with prescription protocols (dosing, measurements, the importance of warnings, restrictions on product claims etc). Confident enough to know what the supplier is saying and to word it concisely without changing the meaning of it
  • Excellent English writing skills (grammar, attention to detail). Not afraid to ask questions but the ability to continue working with uncertainty whilst waiting for a response
  • Rough knowledge of what a database is/how they work is helpful (not essential)
  • Some knowledge of HTML helpful (not essential)

 

Contract period

This is a 3 month contract with the potential to be extended depending on the direction of the database. Potential to move to a permanent part time position depending on circumstances. You can expect:

  • Weekly catch ups with your manager
