The 2020 lockdows really changed our outlook on work and family balance. I for one realized that I wasn’t balancing things very well at all.

Hindsight is a very powerful tool, and looking back I can now see what a terrible job I was doing trying to manage the juggle. I was rushing from dropping my own kids off to childcare and school, and rushing through traffic to meet yours at the clinic for appointments. Transitioning to a hybrid clinic (where we consult face to face and via telehealth) has allowed me to prioritize my time for what I love the most, being present for my own family and practicing as a children’s health naturopath. Our hybrid clinic model allows us to see patients face-to-face in beautiful Goodwood, while continuing to provide increased accessibility and emotional support to adolescents who need that connection the most via telehealth.

When the 2020 lockdowns came and I needed to consult from home, I was genuinely surprised by not only how effective telehealth appointments were, but also that I saw no negative impacts to treatment outcomes or the relationships I was able to build with families.

I found that a lot of parents and carers preferred telehealth and phone consults. It completely eliminated the need to manage feeding and nap schedules around appointment times, missing school, and no one lost time traveling to and from the clinic. The ease of accessing telehealth and phone appointments has been a huge benefit to our teenage patients - where they can now fit appointments into their busy study schedules without losing time commuting to and from face-to-face appointments.

We are now able to submit prescriptions online, and supplements are posted directly from the supplier to your home. As a result of their own experiences throughout parenthood and adolescence, our naturopaths have developed a clinical focus with a strong interest in the health of children and their families. With nutritional and herbal medicine, we’re able to complement mainstream medicine – it doesn’t have to be one way or the other.

As parents, we’re all doing the best that we can with the knowledge and resources that we have available to us at the time. The goal of the Nurture Children's Health clinic is to share our naturopathic knowledge with evidence-based herbal and nutritional medicine to support the growth and development of kids who need a little bit of extra assistance.
